The Day After

If you're an Obama spin doctor this morning, you're earning your pay. It will be interesting to see the explanations Democrats come up with for losing a Senate seat in Massachusetts! Martha Coakley has been widely criticized for her lackluster campaign, but this is Massachusetts, for God's sake. The Dems considered this seat their birthright, it was "Kennedy's seat" after all. (When you cultivate an entitlement state, it's hard not to embrace that mentality.) Granted, Coakley was as tone-deaf as a politician comes, but with Union bosses twisting arms, and a long and storied tradition of dead people and house pets voting Democrat, she should have been able to mail it in. The Democrat primary is the election there. Unless, of course you're saddled with Barack Obama at the head of the party, presiding over policies too far left for even the most of blue of states. This, I believe, was not so much a referendum on where we are as country, but more where we are headed. More precisely, where the President wants to head us. Liberals almost always over-reach when they gain power, and Democrats (and the media) badly misread the results of 2008 as meaning this country wants to turn left. Hard left. Since then, the Dems have lost elections in New Jersey, Virginia and now, Massachusetts. Two of these (New Jersey and Massachusetts) are Democrat strongholds, and the third (Virginia) we were told, was turning that way. What do they all have in common? President Obama campaigned in all three.

Amazingly, the early word from most Democrats is that they are losing because government health care is not moving fast enough! They believe that they aren't implementing the rest of their agenda as quickly as Americans would like as well. With any luck at all, they will continue this self-delusion.

Obama Beer Bong

ImageHere's a fun new drinking game: The next time President Obama gives a speech, or holds a news conference, or for that matter, talks in his sleep; down a shot, or chug a beer every time he mentions that he is "not responsible for" or that he "inherited" the economic mess we are in. After you wake back up, provided you aren't blind, you'll be all set to check yourself in to a 12 step program. It's hardly presidential to do all this finger-pointing, especially when you have a media more than willing to shield you from any blame, but for some reason the man just can't seem to help himself.

Obama's White House is Falling Down

Great column here from the Canada Free Press. Funny how sometimes you can see things more clearly from the outside looking in...

On that note, an entrepreneur in China was selling T-shirts with everyone's favorite socialist in Mao garb. Again, why can outsiders see this, when we cannot? Of course, this portrait is considered flattering in communist China (and in some quarters of the U.S. no doubt).

Why Do You Think They Stopped Calling it Global Warming?

Ever wonder why Al Gore and his ilk stopped using the term "global warming" and switched to "climate change"? Here's an interesting article (one of many) that illustrates how little we know about what is going on with the climate. The article suggests that (gasp!) the sun may actually have a bigger impact on global temps that man! Of course, even cooling temperatures have been sited by Gore, et al. as proof of global warming. The perfect theory! No matter what happens, more rain, less rain, snow in July, they are covered!

Taste Test

I have to admit, I've become a fan of unfiltered wheats. Evidently, I am not alone, as the market is being flooded (figuratively) with the stuff. It's light, it's refreshing, and has a smoother texture and a fruity flavor when compared to other brews. Although I am certainly not in this demographic, it seems to appeal to people who don't typically like beer. Of course, you knew it wouldn't be long before the 800 lb. gorilla of the brewing industry took notice. Any company that would introduce a drink that combines beer, clam, and tomato juice (Chelada) isn't going to leave any money on the table when comes to unfiltered wheat. Anheuser-Busch tip-toed into the market at first, introducing Shock-Top, actually a very pleasant brew. Now, they are bringing out the big guns, introducing Bud Light Golden Wheat. When A-B attaches the Bud Light name to a brew, you know they're serious (although Bud Light Chelada makes me wonder). Always with the macro-brews, the goal is not so much to make a product that everyone will like, but more importantly one which no one will hate. They seem to have hit the mark here. BLGW is completely inoffensive and smooth. There is the citrus note typical of this style, but the coriander is toned down to lowest-common-denominator levels. Judged on it's merits, not a bad effort, and worth trying if you're looking for something a bit different but don't want to risk $8-12 on something that may taste like swill.

Here's an interesting article from the UK Telegraph about the ubiquitous bar code...
